Foye growing more comfortable as starter

Five games into his new role as a starter for the Jazz, guard Randy Foye said he is finally starting get comfortable.

"The first two, three games," Foye said, "it was like, all right, where do I go, where do I not go?"

Foye scored just 2 points in his first game in the starting five, and two games later was limited to 8 points.

The last two games, however, Foye has been the effective scorer and shooter he was when guiding the bench unit. He scored 11 points in Monday's win against the Denver, and on Saturday made 4 of his first 5 3-point attempts.

A constant issue for player in and out of the Jazz's starting lineup will be finding shots. With Mo Williams (when he plays) averaging 13 shots per game, and Al Jefferson attempting 14.5, there aren't a lot of shots left for the other guys in the lineup. That, in part, is why Gordon Hayward has thrived since switching spots with Foye. It's encouraging for the Jazz, then, that Foye is also flourishing, although it's impossible to separate his success in the last two games from the fact that he is taking many shots that Williams, who missed both with a foot injury, may have otherwise taken. "My main thing was I just wanted to come in and be aggressive," Foye said. "That was anything from passing the ball to making shots."

Foye was comfortable playing with the starters. He finished several games alongside them, including the Nov. 16 loss at Philadelphia.

But starting, Foye said, was a bit different.

"Obviously, it took a little bit to adjust to playing with those guys," he said. "A lot of times when I was in the second unit I had the ball, then I finished the game with those guys, but starting with them now I just understand that I've got to help set the tone from the beginning."
