Utah forecast: Mild storm, but enough to clear the air

As storms go, Raisin in the Sun playwright Lorraine Hansberry might suggest, "It ain't much, but it's all I got."

And, it's enough to clear out the brown haze that made air quality along the Wasatch Front downright unhealthy earlier this week. The Utah Division of Air Quality has raised its "Green," or healthy breathability flags statewide for Friday and going into the weekend.

Northern Utahns could even anticipate a 20 percent chance of rain Friday as temperatures rose into the upper-50s after overnight lows in the upper-30s. Southerly winds of 15-25 mph were expected to freshen the atmosphere further.

Southern Utah's Friday highs were to range into the mid-60s with southwest winds of 10-20 mph under partly cloudy skies. Low temperatures were forecast to hover near 40 degrees.

The Utah Avalanche Center rated mountain slopes across the state at "low" for dangerous snowslide activity heading toward the weekend.

Salt Lake City's high Friday was pegged at 58 degrees, down from the 60 forecast for Thursday; Ogden looked for 56 and 57 degrees, respectively; Provo 58 and 61; Logan 51 degrees both days; Wendover 50 and 47; Duchesne 51 and 48; Cedar City 56 and 61; St. George 55 and 59; and Moab 59 and 57 degrees.
