The number of workers injured while on the job rose slightly in Utah last year.

The U.S. Department of Labor through its Bureau of Labor Statistics said that overall incident rate in Utah for both the public and private sectors rose to 3.7 injuries or illnesses for every 100 workers in 2011, up from 3.6 in the previous year.

Among the findings:

• The overall incident rate for the private sector rose to 3.6 injuries or illnesses for every 100 full-time workers in 2011, up from 3.4 in 2010.

• Out of those private sector incidences, cases with days away from work decreased from 0.8 cases per 100 full-time workers in 2010 to 0.7 in 2011.

• The overall incidence rate for the public sector decreased from 4.4 work-related injuries and illness cases in 2010 to 4.2 in 2011.

• For those public sector injuries and illnesses, cases with days away from work decreased from 0.7 in 2010 to 0.6 cases per 100 full-time workers in 2011.

The data for the survey was gather by the Utah Labor Commission's Statistics Department. Over 3,000 Utah employers were randomly selected for the survey.
