West Valley City • The Grizzlies celebrated the end of November on Friday by earning just their second victory of the month. Utah knocked off San Francisco, 7-4, in come-from-behind fashion to end a three-game home losing skid.
Early on, it seemed apparent that the Grizzlies' woes would continue. After Utah right wing Bryan Cameron scored the game's first goal less than four minutes in, the Bulls scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.
"I didn't like our demeanor in the first 20 minutes," Grizzlies coach Kevin Colley said. "That team got in at 5:30 in the morning, and they took it to us. We had to sort some things out in order to play the way I know we are capable of playing."
To Utah's credit, it didn't throw in the towel. The Grizzlies responded by scoring two power-play goals in the second period, one by forward Brad Mills and one by defenseman Mark Isherwood.
Then Collin Vock took over. With about two minutes remaining in the period, Vock blasted a one-timer from the top of the left circle that sailed into the net just below the crossbar. Just like that, Utah had the lead entering the final period.
After the teams traded goals to make it 5-4 early in the third, neither team could make much headway. With less than three and a half minutes left to play, Vock camped himself a few feet in front of the San Francisco goaltender as the two squads fought for possession. The Grizzlies controlled the puck and flipped it to Vock, who deposited it in the net for the goal. Just 21 seconds later, Vock dashed down the ice and scored yet another goal to complete the hat trick and put the game out of reach.
"I just tried to use my speed more than normal," Vock said. "It was just one of those games where the puck seems to keep coming to you. Games like those don't happen very often."
