Frederick Anderson's contention that Steven Spielberg's excellent film "Lincoln" is actually a metaphor for President Barack Obama's socialist agenda is a real head-scratcher ("Socialist Spielberg," Forum, Dec. 1).
If Anderson is correct, depriving people of their God-given right to own other human beings was just the first round of governmental force to push a socialist agenda. Then came fair labor laws, women's suffrage, safe food and environmental protection. And those darned Interstate highways and public transportation largely paid for in poorer "red states" (including Utah) by wresting tax money from citizens in richer "blue states."
How could it possibly end? Eeek! Obamacare! The policy of making everyone share skyrocketing medical costs rather than leaving health care only to those lucky enough to afford medical insurance should certainly be submitted to approval of the entire electorate.
Oh wait, it was twice. And by Congress and the Supreme Court. Positively unconstitutional. Next thing, they'll force us to believe that heat melts ice. Shades of Karl Marx!
