Layton police Investigator Scott Byington has been selected for the Outstanding Drug Enforcement Officer of Year Award.

The award for the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area will be presented to Byington on Dec. 4 in Denver.

A 14-year law enforcement veteran, Byington has been assigned to the Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force for the past two years. In that role, he has investigated nearly 150 cases leading to 100 felony arrests on some 350 individual felony charges.

Byington's efforts are credited for helping unearth two Wasatch Front prescription drug trafficking operations, resulting in numerous federal indictments.
