KCPW-FM President Ed Sweeney on Thursday said an employee's Facebook post that the public radio station "might go under" was untrue, but he acknowledged the station is battling financial challenges.

Sweeney said station manager Eric Ray told him he made the post and apologized after being contacted by The Salt Lake Tribune. The post has since been removed.

"We are not going under. We are pressing ahead," Sweeney said.

Wasatch Public Media bought KCPW from Community Wireless of Park City in 2008. Community Wireless decided to focus on sister station KPCW-FM, also in Park City.

KCPW has had to dip into its operating budget to pay down a bank loan. Sweeney said he has had to cut expenses and defer replacing employees who have left the station.

Sweeney said KCPW is exploring avenues to shore up the station's finances, but would not elaborate.

"We are talking with lenders and colleges and universities [in the state] to look at every opportunity," Sweeney said.
