Four charged in shooting death of Midvale man

A Midvale man shot and killed in August was targeted by a group who believed the man was selling marijuana and decided to rob him, according to charges filed this week in 3rd District Court.

Four people have been charged in connection with the Aug. 26 death of 32-year-old Justen L. LeFave, who was shot in the doorway of his apartment near 7000 South and State Street.

Gabriel Samson Gurule, 35, faces first-degree felony counts of murder, aggravated robbery and obstructing justice for allegedly firing the deadly shot. Anthony Daniel Martinez, 30, has been charged with the same felony counts for allegedly plotting the crime, acting as a getaway driver and helping to get rid of the weapon.

About 5 that morning, LeFave answered a knock at his front door from two women who asked for directions to another building, according to court documents. A witness said a man, later identified as Gurule, stepped up from behind the women and fired a shot, killing LeFave, charges state.

Those women, 25-year-old Alexis Kelley Hughes and 35-year-old Amy Virginia Rowley, have also been charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated robbery.

After the shooting, all four fled the area, according to court documents. The group cleaned the gun and Martinez and Hughes allegedly dumped the weapon in Millcreek Canyon.

All four defendants are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
