A Taylorsville woman's condition was upgraded to serious Friday, the day after she was ejected and pinned under her own vehicle following a crash.

The woman, 38, was driving an eastbound black Ford Excursion near 4700 South and the Interstate 215 on-ramp when she was hit by a Toyota sedan turning onto I-215. The Excursion then careened into a utility pole, throwing the woman out of her seat before the vehicle partially landed on her.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said it took emergency crews about 20 minutes to free the woman. She was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center, where she initially was listed in critical condition.

"Her condition has been upgraded as she is improving at the hospital," Hoyal said Friday. "Our Crash, Analysis, and Reconstruction unit is investigating this accident.

"It will probably be several weeks before they reconstruction work is done and the case is screened with the District Attorney's Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed in the case," he added.
