Taylorsville • Some major highways — U.S. 89 in Sardine Canyon, Interstate 15 near the Idaho border, 5600 West in West Valley City, among others — will have resurfacing projects next year, thanks to leftover money from other road projects.

The Utah Transportation Commission on Friday "cleaned out the corners" of unused funds and approved money to add, speed or enlarge some resurfacing projects on major highways next year.

Among those projects:

Sardine Canyon • $5.4 million to what now will be a $11.7 million project to mill and resurface U.S. 89 from the summit of Sardine Canyon to near Wellsville.

Interstate 15 • $6 million to what will be a $14.5 million project to repair, preserve or replace concrete pavement on I-15 from the Idaho border to SR 30 near Riverside.

5600 West • $2.7 million to mill and repave 5600 West in West Valley City from 3100 South to SR 201.

Ogden 24th Street • $2.5 million to mill and repave SR 53 — Pennsylvania Avenue and 24th Street in Ogden — from the I-15 interchange to the Weber River.

Harrisville Road • $2.5 million to enlarge a project to repave Harrisville Road, U.S. 89, between Washington Boulevard and Wall Avenue in Harrisville.

1900 West in Weber, Davis • The commission added $2.5 million to resurface several sections of SR 126 and to level some slabs on a bridge over the Weber River.
