The Jazz were coming off a night in which they made just one 3-pointer, a timely fourth-quarter shot by Randy Foye in a close win over Orlando.
So at practice Thursday, coach Tyrone Corbin's plan for the team was simple.
"He just said, 'Guys, we're just going to shoot,'" Foye said.
Well, that carried over to the Jazz's 131-99 esteem-boosting romp over Toronto, in which the Jazz made 13 of 23 3-point attempts. At one point, the Jazz were so hot, it led Enes Kanter to later say, "After a while it was like, 'I'm not even going after the rebound.' "
In the second quarter, the Jazz hit 3-pointers on four of five possessions, turning a 44-40 game into a 56-42 blowout. First it was Mo Williams in transition, then Marvin Williams on a kickout. On the next possession Mo Williams swung the ball to DeMarre Carroll in the corner and the next time down the floor he found Hayward.
You follow?
"At one point they started coming from everywhere," Marvin Williams said. "That was actually kind of fun to be a part of, kind of fun to watch."
Marvin Williams, Carroll and Foye made three 3-pointers, while Mo Williams made a pair.
It was the Jazz's second-most 3-pointers made in a game, behind the 14 they made in Toronto on Nov. 12. Of course, that game went to triple overtime before the Jazz prevailed 140-133. On Friday, the Jazz came close to the franchise record for 3s (15) in regulation, but instead settled for tying the sixth-most in team history.
"We did a great job of sharing the ball tonight," Corbin said, "just swinging it from strong side to weak side, making the extra pass. We got a lot of good looks as a result of that."
Just as telling as the number of 3-pointers for the Jazz were the assists. They recorded a season-high 31 assists, including 10 from Mo Williams.
"It was really pretty basketball," Corbin said, "and was fun for the guys to play in."
