South Sevier double-teams the 6-foot-2 junior from Foothill High in Henderson, Nev., but he keeps his cool.

"Bank," Starr mutters at the opposition and gets off a 30-footer that hits off the glass and in for 3.

It was one of six 3-pointers for Starr, who helped lead Foothill past South Sevier 73-59 in a physical affair that showcased Foothill's defense and its ability to create turnovers. The Falcons dominated Utah's reigning 2A state champions Saturday at the Great Western Shootout behind 27 points from Starr and 15 from senior Elijah Smith.

"They were a really good team, but we were able to spot up and take good shots," Starr said.

The Falcons utilized a trap defense to stunt South Sevier's offense in the early going.

"It's the best I've seen it executed today," Foothill coach Kevin Soares said. "We have the bodies to move around to put on the pressure."

South Sevier trailed 45-29 at the half but came out with a different attitude. Led by Race Parsons' 24 points and 15 from Austin Clark, the Rams made a run in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 11 points.

"We watched a lot of tape on him," Starr said about Parsons. "We knew that we needed to shut him down."

The difference was turnovers. Foothill maintained better control of the ball and managed to grab 14 offensive rebounds.

"After playing Lone Peak and Orem, it feels good to get out of Utah with a victory," Soares said. "It's nice to get a quality win against a good team." —
