Sen. Mike Lee and his tea party followers seem to live in some kind of alternate universe where everything is a threat to the Constitution.
They believe America is not strong enough. They believe that the Constitution can be overcome by a United Nations treaty. They believe that our sovereignty can be undermined by a treaty called the "Rights of Persons with Disabilities."
They see threats in the shadows; they play games with fear to create and hold power. When asked to explain and give examples, they give generalities and talking points. They come up with off-the-wall conspiracy theories, as if this country can't defend itself. Ridiculous!
This kind of partisan pandering is repulsive, but it plays to a certain segment of our society. It is hard to believe that Lee really believes this claptrap.
If he does, then he is not in touch with reality. If he doesn't, he is succumbing to the worst type of demagoguery.
Either way, Utah should be proud to have sent Lee to the Senate. Go ahead and keep electing these tea partyers; they should continue to make us proud.
