Monday on Utah TV: Howie Mandel has a new game show; Syfy inexplicably celebrates

Howie Mandel hosts the new game show Take It All (8 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5), in which contestants can try to, yes, take it all and end up with nothing. The show continues through Friday at 8 p.m., and concludes on Monday, Dec. 17, at 9 p.m.

It wasn't previewed for critics, but here's NBC's description:

In the show, a contestant selects and opens a prize worth thousands of dollars; dream prizes such as luxury cars, exotic trips, jewelry and VIP experiences. Then, the next player is faced with a dilemma: do they steal a prize that has already been revealed, or do they take a chance with another unopened prize, hoping what's inside is worth more?

But that's just the beginning. When there are only two contestants left, the players have a life-changing choice to make: keep the prizes they have — or try and take all the prizes. If both players choose to "keep mine," they will each keep the prizes they have won in the prior rounds. If one player chooses "keep mine" and the other chooses to "take it all," the player that chose "take it all" will go home with all the prizes — theirs and their opponents. But if both choose "take it all," they both go home with nothing. The stakes are insanely high as each contestant grapples with the choice of a lifetime.

Also tonight, it's the Syfy 20th Anniversary Special (7 and 9 p.m., Syfy). It's all upbeat, sunshine and self-congratulations, but the thought of the past two decades of Syfy/SciFi make me sort of sad.

There have been a few highlights, like "Battlestar Galactica," but mostly it's been a long string of disappointments.

Gossip Girl (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Chuck makes a deal that could change his life.

Hawaii Five-0 (9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): Steve and a little girl are taken hostage by an armed man (Tom Arnold).

Michael Buble: Home for the Holidays (9 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5): Rod Stewart, Blake Shelton and Carly Rae Jepsen join Buble for this holiday special.
