Airida Gruodis, suspected of stabbing and killing her mother, has also been charged for allegedly assaulting an officer during her arrest.

Gruodis was charged on Tuesday with assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony, in 3rd District Court.

On Nov. 26, her father told police that his wife just died. When police entered the Cottonwood Heights home at 7941 S. Chadbourne Drive (3450 East) they found the woman "deceased in her bed from numerous knife wounds," according to a jail probable-cause statement. Police arrested Gruodis, who has more than a decade of mental health and domestic violence issues on her record, on suspicion of homicide after questioning her.

Before she was taken to Salt Lake County jail, Gruodis lunged at police so an officer put her in a Tyvek protective suit. Gruodis became agitated and placed her teeth around the base of the officer's thumb, according to the charges. The officer was able to move her thumb before Gruodis bit down.
