Re "Wearing helmets: Let's require sensible behavior" (Our View, Dec. 10):
We could outlaw swimming alone without anyone else around. We all know it's inherently more dangerous to do so, but I don't see a law forbidding it, nor can I imagine police writing tickets to enforce such a law. The victims are limited to the individuals, their families and perhaps their employers.
Motorcyclists who die are like the drowned solo swimmer or rock-climber who falls and dies. I don't see us legislating away all activities that can result in injury and death.
