A recent letter writer justified her vote for Gov. Mitt Romney because he has not "forgotten what the Constitution stands for" ("Thanks to Romney," Forum, Nov. 24).

I voted against Romney precisely because of what he and today's Republican Party have come to stand for: voter suppression laws, emergency management laws, ALEC-drafted state laws, "Papers, please" laws, loyalty pledges and voodoo science.

Americans enjoy greater freedoms today than ever before. Our Constitution is in peril only at the hands of those who wish to rewrite it with their own mind-set.

It's worth reviewing the chapter on Constitution law in our 11th-grade American history textbooks before the creationists and climate-change deniers rewrite that, too.

Freedoms bravely balance on the slippery slope of fear, power and greed, but above all, ignorance.
