Utah budget director to retire | The Salt Lake Tribune

State budget director Ron Bigelow announced Friday that he will retire next month, coming amid a revamp of the budget office announced earlier this year by Gov. Gary Herbert.

Bigelow resigned from the Legislature to become budget director two years ago.

"It has been an honor and privilege to work for the people of the state of Utah," he said. "I also appreciate the kindness and support of the people in the state agencies and departments as we worked together on the state budget."

Bigelow said he plans to devote more time to family, community and church service.

Herbert said Utahns "have benefitted greatly from Ron's service and financial expertise, both as a long-time legislator and as the state budget director for the past two years. Ron has an incomparable commitment to fiscal prudence and principle."

Bigelow helped prepare the governor's 2014 budget, which Herbert unveiled earlier this week.

The governor announced earlier this year that he will seek permission from the Legislature to convert his Office of Planning and Budget into a new Office of Management and Budget that will focus more on improving operations throughout the state government. He also named Kristen Cox, former director of the Department of Workforce Services, to oversee the new agency.
