Birmingham, Ala. • Police in Alabama have fatally shot two suspects following separate shooting incidents 75 miles apart, one of which left a woman and two children dead.

Authorities said a man was shot in eastern Alabama by police after he fatally shot a woman and two children, and then led police on a chase that ended at a busy interchange near Interstate 20. The suspect was armed with an AK-47 and wounded a police officer during the pursuit.

The identities of the gunman and the three gunshot victims had not been released Saturday evening.

In a separate incident, police said 38-year-old Jason Letts of Jemison opened fire early Saturday morning at a hospital in Birmingham, wounding a police officer and two employees before being shot and killed by another officer.
