AT&T announced Tuesday it has expanded its new 4G LTE data network into areas of west Salt Lake County.
The mobile data network, which smartphones and tablets can use to access the Internet and stream video and music, has been turned on for Glendale, Granger, West Valley City, Taylorsville, Kearns and Bennion, according to the cellular company. AT&T's high-speed service, which can deliver broadband-like speeds up to 10 times faster than the older 3G network, had been launched in Orem, Provo and Salt Lake City.
Verizon is the only other cellular company that has a 4G LTE service working in Utah. The other two major carriers, Sprint and T-Mobile, are building their 4G LTE services nationally.
In order to use the service, phones and tablets must be compatible with 4G LTE, such as the Samsung Galaxy S III and the new iPhone 5.
