Utah's union movement is pitching in Thursday and Friday to help the needy at The Road Home, 210 S. Rio Grande St., in Salt Lake City.

Members of the Utah AFL-CIO's building trades unions and Utah Labor Community Services will donate almost 5,000 socks and 850 diapers to the shelter. They also will serve hot chocolate, coffee and granola bars to Road Home staff, volunteers and residents both days between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., said AFL-CIO spokeswoman Judy Barnett.
