Ogden public safety building to be renamed ..

On the one-year anniversary of a drug raid turned deadly shootout, Ogden's public safety building will be renamed the Francom Public Safety Building, in honor of Weber Morgan Strike Force Agent Jared Francom, who was killed during the Jan. 4 gun battle.

The Ogden City Council unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday to rename the building, according to city council minutes.

Ogden Police Chief Mike Ashment said the building will be officially renamed during a ceremony on Jan. 4, exactly a year after agents served a knock-and-announce warrant at the home of Matthew David Stewart.

During the ensuing gun fight, Stewart allegedly killed Francom, 30, and wounded five other agents.

Stewart, 38, who also was shot and wounded, is charged in 2nd District Court with aggravated murder for Francom's death.

The Ogden Public Safety Building houses the city's police and fire departments, along with the Weber County Dispatch Center.
