Las Vegas man charged with attempted murder in West Valley City apartment shooting

A 24-year-old Las Vegas Man man accused of shooting more than 20 rounds into a West Valley City apartment last month was trying to kill a man he had dealt with in the past, officials said.

The shooter was arrested last week and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and six counts of illegally firing a gun.

Authorities believe the man may have been involved in other area shootings and that he returned to Utah to "finish the job," state prosecutor Anita Dickinson said Monday morning at the man's first appearance before 3rd District Judge Randall Skanchy.

According to West Valley City police, the shooter knocked on several doors on Nov. 25 at a four-unit apartment complex, 1915 W. 3300 South, asking for a specific man.

Eventually, he reached the apartment of that man's mother and began arguing with the woman.

She told him her son was not home. That's when he pulled out a handgun, police said.

The mother locked her door and ran.

Multiple bullet holes were found in the ceiling and windows of the apartment, and more than 20 shell casings were collected from the area, according to charging documents. No one was hurt in the assault.

Court documents also note these shell casings match those found on Nov. 23. It was not immediately clear what incident police responded to on that date.
