The Utah State football coaching staff has yet to lose one commitment after the departure of Gary Andersen and the promotion of Matt Wells to head coach, the Tribune has learned.
Sources close to the coaching staff said that the Aggies still have retained all their 2013 commits so far, and coach Matt Wells has made keeping in touch with recruits one of his priorities.
Several have affirmed their commitments to the Tribune or through their coaches. Among the commits the Tribune has independently confirmed are Logan's Jake Thompson and Jacoby Wildman, Pine View's Cody Boyer, and Gunnison Valley's Braden Harris.
There are a few unique cases in the class: Chasen Andersen and Hagen Andersen, Gary Andersen's sons, as well as Kalei Kauha'aha'a, son of Chad Kauha'aha'a, each have fathers who are headed to Madison. As of early Monday, none of them had yet switched their commitments.
At his introduction, Wells recommitted the program to "first and foremost" recruiting the state of Utah. Sources indicated that many of the recruits are "excited" to play for Utah State under Wells and see what the next chapter brings.
Meanwhile, Wells is still working on hiring a new coaching staff, a process that has been lengthened by the bowl season. So far, the school has only announced defensive line coach Frank Maile as a coach who will be retained, but others still could be.
