There was some speculation last week before prep basketball phenom Jabari Parker announced he was going to Duke that if Parker chose BYU, a few BYU-pound players would delay their church mission plans for a year so they could play a year with Parker. Of course. that's a moot point now, and at least one of those high schoolers has already received his mission call. Nick Emery, the high-scoring guard from Lone Peak High, has been called to the Frankfurt, Germany, mission. Emery will begin his mission on May 1. The younger brother of Jackson Emery, former BYU great, is averaging 18.6 points a game for Lone Peak, ranked as the No. 1 prep team in the nation last week by Maxpreps.com before a loss in in a tournament's championship game in Florida. ————————— Eleven of BYU's 12 or 13 football games for the 2013 season have been scheduled, but now it appears a scheduled opponent for the 2014 and 2015 seasons wants to get out of a pair of games with BYU. Southern Mississippi apparently wants out, according to an email which was obtained through a GRAMA request by Deadspin.com. The Golden Eagles want a more lucrative payout than the one they can get with BYU. However, if the contract is upheld, Southern Miss will have to pay BYU some $1 million in damages if it cancels.
