Trio sought in armed robbery of Salt Lake City eatery

Police were on the lookout Friday for three men who held up a Salt Lake City restaurant and bakery at gunpoint before tying up a lone employee and fleeing on foot.

Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said the men walked into Panaderia Bonita, 165 E. 900 South, about 2 p.m. Thursday. While two of the men kept watch at the front door, the third pretended to order an item and then pointed a handgun at the employee.

"That suspect reached in the cash register and took the money. [They] tied up the clerk and then the three exited the business in an unknown direction," McGowan said.

The clerk was able to get to his feet and, still bound with cord, managed to make it to a nearby business where he was untied and police were called.

The suspects were described as Latinos. The gunman was age 45-50, about 5 feet 4 inches tall with gray facial hair; he wore a black baseball cap, black jacket and black pants. Detectives asked that anyone with information to call them at 801-799-3000.
