BYU sophomore guard Tyler Haws scored a career-high 42 points in the Cougars' 97-71 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City and talked to reporters after the game about his standout performance.

It was Haws' second 30-plus scoring game and placed him tied for eighth for points in a single game for a BYU basketball player.

Haws scored 29 points in the first half, the most for a Cougar in a half since Jimmer Fredette scored 33 against New Mexico in 2011 en route to 52 points, which is BYU's school record for scoring in a game.

Haws made six three-pointers, which ties for ninth in the BYU record books.
