Subfreezing temperatures are being blamed in part for the failure of a fire hydrant that flooded basements in two Sandy homes Monday morning.

KUTV 2 News reports that the hydrant spewed a river about 3 a.m., flooding the residences near 3151 East and 10000 South.

Sandy firefighters estimated damages of up to $25,000.
