Re "Group pushes to arm more teachers" (Tribune, Dec. 26):

Our country needs more citizens with guns like our planet needs more countries with nuclear weapons.

Since we have failed to effectively regulate guns, the more there are in circulation, the more likely they are to fall into the hands of curious children, angry teenagers, jealous lovers and the desperate, disgruntled and deranged.

Until our leaders develop spines and stand up to the National Rifle Association, the problem will only worsen.

We don't ask cops to teach good grammar; why ask English teachers to shoot it out with gunmen intent on killing?
