Re" Amid pollution, residents ask why expand Woods Cross refinery?" (Tribune, Jan. 4):

Before the Utah Division of Air Quality signs off on the expansion of the Holly refinery in Woods Cross, it needs to answer these questions:

1. Has any outside agency verified the accuracy of Holly's claim that the expansion will reduce pollution?

2. What provision has DAQ made for monitoring air quality to determine if Holly meets promised levels of pollutants released? Are any air quality monitors located near the refinery?

3. What plans are in place for holding Holly responsible if their operation exceeds agreed-upon levels of pollution?

4. How will the fleet of diesel trucks bringing greater amounts of oil to the refinery affect air quality?

Air quality is already a significant problem along the Wasatch Front. The public deserves answers before the refinery is allowed to expand.
