Girl Scout cookies will have a new twist this year: they'll come in redesigned boxes, which had been unchanged since 1999.
Scouts will be taking orders for the iconic cookies beginning Saturday and continuing through Jan. 27.
Don't know a Girl Scout in your area? Go online at www.gsutah.org Jan. 12 to 27 and order there. A Scout will deliver the cookies to your door in March.
And if you miss this pre-order period, there will still be the opportunity to satisfy that sweet tooth at community cookie booth sales from March 8 to 24. The cookie program is a $790-million business led by girls, according to the Girl Scouts of Utah.
The new designs for all the cookie boxes highlight the five entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills that the program teaches girls goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. The design by Girl Scouts of the USA and Anthem Worldwide shows girls kayaking, making a speech, working in a park and learning cultural dances, among other activities.
One thing that hasn't changed, the organization said, is that the cookies are delicious. Thin Mints are Utah's top seller; the other varieties are Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Dulce de Leche, Savannah Smiles, Trefoils and Thank U Berry Munch. The cookies cost $3.50 a box.
