College football: Snow College coach Tyler Hughes steps down

Snow College football coach Tyler Hughes has stepped down from his position, the school announced Monday.

Hughes, who led the junior college team to an 11-1 season and a No. 3 ranking in 2012, said he is leaving to get a master's degree in business administration.

"I am moving toward a new chapter in my life," the 33-year-old said in a statement. "I still love the game and have a passion for it. Being able to work with our coaches and players has been a tremendous blessing and one that I will always look back on with gratitude. That said, it is time to move on."

Hughes joined the Snow College staff in 2004 and was named offensive coordinator a year later. Hughes took over the head coaching duties after Steve Coburn left in 2010.

In two years at the helm, Hughes amassed a 20-4 record. He was the 2012 Western States Football League coach of the year.

Hughes will remain at the school for the spring semester, teaching classes and helping with the football program. But the school already has begun a national search for his replacement.
