Woman critical after rear-ending semi truck

A woman was critically injured in an accident Tuesday after she crashed into a semi-truck.

About 6 p.m., the woman going north on Bangerter Highway in her passenger car when she rear-ended a semi-truck with a box trailer that was stopped at the intersection of California Avenue, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The 45-year-old woman was flown from the scene in a helicopter to a local hospital in critical condition, said UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson. Troopers are investigating her for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

The driver of the semi-truck wasn't hurt.

Troopers shut down the northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway for about 90 minutes as they cleared the scene.
