Re "Utah lawmaker: Let's use booze profit for schools" (Tribune, Jan. 9):
The state is directly involved in liquor sales and indirectly involved with tobacco sales through taxes.
Considering its involvement in these vices, why not participate in one of the lotteries and allocate the profits to schools?
This would end a lot of driving by Utahns to adjacent states with lotteries. Those Mormons and others who object do not need to participate, just as they don't have to smoke or imbibe.
