Utah County Attorney expects his Guard unit to be deployed

Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Buhman confirmed Wednesday that his Utah Army National Guard unit is expected to be deployed.

County leaders must now name a temporary replacement for the county attorney post.

Buhman said the deployment is expected to occur at the end of March, but because of statute he was required to announce his unit has been called up. He said he's served in the National Guard for about 15 years, but this will mark his first deployment.

The Utah County Republican Party will be tasked with nominating three people to fill the post by Feb. 7. Those names will be turned over to the Utah County Commission, which will pick a replacement, said county party chair David Acheson.

The person named will serve as county attorney until Buhman's return from active duty, which is expected to last about a year.
