Herriman senior quarterback Tueni Lupeamanu committed to the University of Idaho over the weekend, according to former Mustang head coach Larry Wilson.
The 6-foot-3, 242-pound Mustang star chose the Vandals due to the opportunity to play right away, Wilson said in an email. He added Lupeamanu thought being part of "building something new" Idaho hired former Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino on Dec. 3, 2012 as the program's head coach was a determing factor in his decision to head to Moscow. Wilson said Lupeamanu is likely to play fullback at Idaho.
Lupeamanu, who had previous offers from both Utah State and BYU, let those offers elapse, according to Wilson. The Herriman senior also cancelled a recent scheduled home visit with Oregon State.
Lupeamanu was a key cog in Herriman's best season to date, leading the Mustangs to a 8-3 record and a share of the Region 7 championship.
