Utah Valley group names Social Entrepreneur of the Year

The Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum has named Robert Workman, founder and chairman of Goal Zero, as Social Entrepreneur of the Year.

The annual event recognizes Utah companies and leaders for innovation, business growth and contributions to the entrepreneurial community. Workman was recognized for pioneering a new approach to humanitarian work by providing innovative tools that serve a social purpose.

After 30 years as owner of Provo Craft and Novelty Inc., Workman founded Goal Zero, a renewable energy company which delivers dependable, socially responsible and eco-friendly portable power. He also created TIFIE Humanitarian to supply and teach the use of renewable solar energy technologies to under-served communities globally.

TIFIE's mission is to lift the human spirit by proving access to products and services that focus on reliable and portable energy, functional and stable housing and thriving agricultural development and food production.

"Utah entrepreneurs continue to put the state at the top of economic heap nationally," said UVEF chairman Ken Kaufman. "Robert Workman inspires others to work hard, work smart, and persevere through rough waters."

The Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum is a volunteer, non-profit support group linking entrepreneurs to money, markets and mentors.
