2-alarm fire destroys Grantsville barn, 1950s-era pickup

A two-alarm fire destroyed a barn, some farm equipment and a 1950s-era pickup truck in Grantsville on Saturday night.

The 8 p.m. fire also threatened a second barn on the property and the residence near 200 E. Clark St., but was contained before it spread, Grantsville police spokeswoman Alison Peterson said.

Several small explosions occurred inside the barn, which firefighters believe were caused by fuel and chemicals the homeowner was using to restore the pickup truck, Peterson said.

No one was injured, although the homeowners were still trying to account for all of the family pets.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No damage estimate was available Saturday, but Peterson said the structure and its contents, were believed to be a total loss.
