In The Following (8 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13), Kevin Bacon stars as an ex-FBI agent who's called in when a serial killer (James Purefoy) he put away escapes from prison. The real problem isn't just the serial killer, however. It's the cult of followers he's created. And the series of gruesome murders. The pilot is good. Better than I expected. It's also gross and pretty disgusting. Be warned. After watching Episodes 2, 3 and 4, I'm less impressed. It become increasingly illogical and sometimes downright ridiculous, while remaining gruesome. And seems to be devolving into horrific-murder-of-the-week.After watching four episodes, I was overwhelmed by the violence of it all. It's just too much.Too bad.Elsewhere on TV ...How I Met Your Mother (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): Barney wants Ted to keep dating a woman with whom he has nothing in common. The Biggest Loser (7 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5): The contestants run a 5K.Bones (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13): Angela and Hodgins wake to find a corpse in their bedroom. The Carrie Diaries (7 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Donna tries to keep Carrie and Sebastian apart.2 Broke Girls (8 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): Caroline and Max try to handle a huge cupcake order.90210 (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Naomi and Adrianna go on a road trip.Lost Girl (8 and 11 p.m., Syfy): Bo can't escape the new darkness that haunts her.Mike and Molly (8:30 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): Mike's plans for Molly's birthday go completely awry.Hawaii Five-0 (9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): A. prostitute is found dead in a congressman's bed.Castle (9 p.m., ABC/Ch.4): The founder of an adult video franchise is murdered.Deception (9 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5): Mia makes some hasty decisions.Switched at Birth (9 and 11 p.m., ABC Family): Melody tries to bridge the divide between the hearing students and the deaf students.Bunheads (10 p.m., ABC Family): Michelle and Fanny attempt to drum up some new business.
