prep basketball • The Lone Peak High boys' basketball team defeated Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) 81-46 Monday morning at the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Mass., in a game televised on ESPNU.
Senior guard Conner Toolson scored a team-high 22 points for the Knights (15-1), going 6-of-6 from 3-point land. Nick Emery finished with 20 points and five rebounds, while TJ Haws had 18 points, and Eric Mika tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds
Galaxy coach says Donovan to return
soccer • Landon Donovan will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy for the upcoming MLS season, but exactly when he resumes playing hasn't been decided yet. Donovan wasn't at the team's first practice on Monday, when coach Bruce Arena said the Galaxy captain has been given more time off. Arena says Donovan is "definitely playing this year."
Donovan turns 31 on March 4, a day after the Galaxy's season opener against the Chicago Fire.
The midfielder had the tiebreaking goal on a penalty kick that gave the Galaxy a 3-1 victory over Houston for their second straight MLS Cup title in November. Afterward, he said he had been dealing with physical and mental fatigue after playing 49 games in 48 weeks.
Musial services include visitation
baseball • A public visitation for baseball great Stan Musial will be Thursday at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, with a funeral Mass on Saturday. The St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer died Saturday at age 92 after several years of declining health. The Cardinals announced Monday that the public visitation will be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST on Thursday.
Following the Mass, the funeral procession will travel to Busch Stadium, where the family will lay a wreath at the base of the Musial statue. After that, a private burial is planned.
• Outfielder David Murphy and the Texas Rangers agreed to a one-year contract worth $5,775,000. Murphy hit .304 with 15 homers and 61 RBIs in 147 games with Texas last year.
