Driver arrested in alleged road rage shooting

A Spanish Fork motorist was jailed after allegedly firing six shots into another driver's car during a road rage incident, police said.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday near 1550 East and 600 South in Spanish Fork, a police department news release said.

Both drivers were eastbound on U.S. Highway 6 and exited at Center Street. The victim told investigators he passed the suspect's car after being "brake checked" while exiting the highway. The suspect then followed the victim through a neighborhood and passed him, before parking at an intersection and getting out of his vehicle and pointing a .40-caliber handgun at the victim, police said.

The victim accelerated and struck the suspect with the bumper of his car as he drove away. The suspect then allegedly fired six shots at the fleeing car, according to police. Two bullets lodged in the victim's car. Four others have not been found, police said.

No one was injured.

Police arrested the 41-year-old Spanish Fork man Friday night and booked him into jail for investigation of aggravated assault. No bail has been set and no formal charges had been filed as of Monday.
