I am … a liberal Utah Democrat. Many thought I didn't exist the subject of legend and scary stories that keep conservative Republicans up at night.
I do exist, and it's nice to be acknowledged in a positive way. No, nobody here in Utah did that. (Is the Second Coming nigh?) I'm talking about President Barack Obama's inauguration speech. He acknowledged me a working woman who would love equal pay (and rights).
He talked about issues important to me and in a supportive way. Words from a political leader that were not mocking, degrading or insulting.
For a brief moment, I felt like an actual human being instead of a walking target for ridicule. I was spoken to as an equal.
That's rare for Utah liberals to feel. And, yes, liberals do have feelings.
