Identity of body found on Mount Ogden still a mystery

The Utah Medical Examiner's Office has examined the remains of a man who was found dead on top of Mount Ogden late Monday night, but a positive identification is still pending.

Weber County sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said Thursday that the medical examiner has requested a toxicology report, which can typically take six to eight weeks. In the meantime, the state office will use fingerprints and dental records to confirm the man's identity. He was estimated to be in his 20s or 30s.

"We have an idea of who he is, but the medical examiner is being thorough for understandable reasons," Lowther said.

Lowther said authorities still don't know how the man ended up on top of the peak at an elevation of 8,400 feet. He was found with little protective clothing for the harsh conditions — just a sweater, jacket and loafers — and there was no sign of skis or other recreational equipment.

Lowther said there was no obvious cause of death, but it doesn't appear that any foul play was involved.
