One person was killed Thursday in a head-on collision in Tooele County, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

A man in his mid-50s in his white pickup truck was going east on State Road 112 and having difficulty maintaining a lane, said UHP Lt. Corey Nye. Investigators are not sure why he was having a hard time behind the wheel, but near Mile Post 1 he crossed into the westbound lanes and crashed head-on with a green Dodge Caravan about 6 p.m. A westbound black pickup truck then crashed into the side of the Caravan.

A Tooele man in his mid-70s, the lone occupant of the Caravan, died. The driver of the white pickup was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and Nye noted that he had not been wearing a seat belt. He was the only one in the truck.

The man and woman in the black pickup were not hurt.

The crash left SR-112 closed for about three hours on Thursday.

UHP will continue to investigate the accident, but based on road conditions at the time, they do not believe weather was a factor.
