Spokane, Wash. • When leading scorer Tyler Haws does not register a basket in the first half, you know the BYU Cougars are in a bit of trouble.

With Haws going 0 for 6 from the field and second-leading scorer Brandon Davies getting as many fouls as points — two — shell-shocked BYU trails No. 10 Gonzaga 40-21 at halftime at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Cougars fell behind early, 11-3, and never led in the first half. They were not even that competitive, continually giving up easy basket after easy basket.

On the offensive end, BYU was just as inept, shooting 25.8 percent from the field.

A three-point play by Elias Harris gave the Zags a 24-12 lead with 6:31 remaining in the half. Harris leads all scorers with 14 points.

Josh Sharp leads BYU with 10 points, but picked up a technical foul.
