Prosecutors have charged a Riverdale man with beating his infant daughter over the course of a month.

The 25-year-old man was charged Friday in 2nd District Court with five counts of intentionally inflicting serious physical injury to a child. He could spend up to 15 years in prison for each count.

His 4-month-old daughter arrived Wednesday at Primary Children's Medical Center, where doctors discovered she had suffered bleeding in her brain, a broken collar bone, a broken rib, two separate fractures to her left leg and an internal hemorrhage, according to the charges. Several of the injuries were in the process of healing.

Her father acknowledged to investigators that he intentionally hurt the girl, according to the charges. The abuse began about a month ago, and "he refused to render medical aid to [the girl] because he was scared that the abuse would be discovered," the charges added.
