College basketball • Former Utah Ute Will Clyburn was named the Big 12's Rookie of the Week on Monday after posting back-to-back double-doubles an honor made for some good-natured ribbing by Clyburn's teammates considering that he's 22 and at his third college.
Clyburn torched then-No. 11 Kansas State for 24 points and 10 rebounds Saturday as Iowa State held off the Wildcats 74-69 for their first win over a ranked opponent this season. It was a win the Cyclones (14-5, 4-2 Big 12) badly needed after an ugly loss at Texas Tech, and it kept them afloat in the upper half of the league ahead of Wednesday's game at Oklahoma State (13-5, 3-3).
Clyburn is averaging 14.4 points.

In addition, Clarence Smith, a 6-3, 215-pound running back/linebacker from Youngker H.S. in Buckeye, Ariz., also committed to the Utes.

BASEBALL • The Los Angeles Dodgers formally announced a deal with Time Warner Cable on Monday to create a new TV channel that people familiar with the situation say assures the team more than $7 billion over 25 years. That is double what Major League Baseball thought the local TV rights were worth when the team was sold out of bankruptcy just last year.
SportsNet LA will be available throughout Southern California and Hawaii on Time Warner Cable for the 2014 Major League Baseball season, the team said Monday.
• Infielder Ronny Cedeno has agreed to a $1.15 million, one-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old Cedeno batted .259 with four homers and 22 RBIs last year for the New York Mets.
