Businesses evacuated after semi crashes into West Jordan car wash,

Five businesses were evacuated in West Jordan on Monday night after a semi-truck jackknifed and crashed into a car wash, breaking a natural gas line.

The semi crashed into the car wash after swerving to avoid a passenger car at the intersection of 1300 West and 9000 South, West Jordan police Lt. Drew Sanders said. The truck, which was hauling building materials, was headed east on 9000 South when the westbound car turned left in its path at about 7:30 p.m., Sanders said.

The truck clipped the car's front fender and went off the road before it jackknifed and hit the car wash, which is adjacent to a Conoco gas station and convenience store, he said.

About a dozen people from the Conoco and surrounding businesses were evacuated.

By 9:30 p.m., a Questar Gas crew had shut off the gas and was working on repairs, Sanders said.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the passengers car was also treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and released, Sanders said.

No citations had been issued as of Monday night.
