Re "Lee backs out of immigration compromise" (Tribune, Jan. 29):

Sen. Mike Lee has no heart. And not much of a brain.

He has no heart because he still refuses to support the DREAM Act and allow legal status for children of undocumented workers — people who had no choice in coming here and for whom this is their only country and who deserve an education and a feeling of security — a future.

Lee has no brain because he opposes a bipartisan proposal by senators that would provide a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants here. It's a no-brainer because those people aren't going anywhere, and America is safer and better and stronger when we know who resides within our borders and they are contributing citizens.

It's the difference between Jean Valjean in "Les Misérables" being a mayor and productive businessman and being on the lam. Plus, there is no viable alternative to a pathway to citizenship; more of the same is not a good option.

Lee may have no heart or brain, but he's got plenty of nerve.
