I don't care much about the Second Amendment. The debate about its interpretation leaves me cold.

Each generation has its troubles; every generation should be its own nation.

What I care about is children. Our nation's No. 1 concern today is to protect children. Any amount of gun control that will help save children should be pursued. If that doesn't work, then we should continue to look for other solutions.

I keep returning to Thomas Jefferson's words, expressed in HBO's John Adams miniseries: "I am increasingly persuaded that the Earth belongs exclusively to the living, and that one generation has no more right to bind another to its laws and judgments, than one independent nation has the right to command another."

Let's put children first, and interpret our Constitution in a way best for our little ones, and not to win an argument.
